In 1960, Graham Higman introduced one of the fundamental conjecturesin finite group theory concerning the number of -groups or order . This is now known as Higman's PORC conjecture.

In this talk, I will give a brief survey on recent developments of thisconjecture. In particular, I will demonstrate how zeta functions,powerful classical tools from number theory, have become importantweapons to attack this problem.
