We present a simple numerical method to obtain the approximate flux variable of the Darcy equation. An important feature of our new method is that the approximate solution of the flux variable is obtained without approximating the pressure. Therefore, the problem size of the algebraic system for flux variable is significantly smaller compared to the one from the standard mixed finite element methods and/or least-squares methods. Some observations of the proposed method will also be discussed, together with error analysis and numerical examples. Note that this talk is a type of progress report for the work, which has yet to be completed jointly with Imbum Kim, JaEun Ku and Dongwoo Sheen.
