Title: KPZ limit theorems
Abstract:
The boundary of melting ice forms a random interface, as does the frontier of slow-burning pieces of paper. As time changes, the interface evolves randomly. We will consider the fluctuations of these interfaces. In probability theory, many models often exhibit the same fluctuation behaviors when the system size or time becomes large, thus forming a universality class. The KPZ universality class comprises probability models that display universal fluctuations similar to those of random interfaces. The name comes from the first prediction on such models by the physicists Kardar, Parisi, and Zhang in 1985. We will overview a few results on the KPZ universality class obtained over the last twenty-five years.
