이 과목은 이공계 학생들 중 수학 성취도가 높은 우수한 학생들을 대상으로 하며 <수학 1>의 고급, 심화과정이다. 주요 내용은 일변수 미적분학이며, 구체적으로는 실수의 성질, 급수, 거듭제곱급수, 지수함수, 로그함수, 삼각함수, 테일러 전개, 좌표계, 극좌표계, 벡터와 내적, 행렬과 행렬식, 선형사상, 벡터곱, 공간의 곡선과 속도, 가속도, 길이와 선적분, 곡률, 접촉평면 등의 내용을 증명, 심화 문제 등을 포함하여 심도 있게 배운다. 이 내용들은 <고급수학2>에서 다룰 다변수 미적분의 기초가 된다.

This is an advanced calculus course (of one-variable) for the excellent students who earned high scores in the Mathematics placement test and designed to investigate properties of real numbers, series, power series, exponential functions, logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions, Taylor expansions, coordinate systems, polar coordinates, vectors and inner product, matrices and determinants, linear transformations, vector products, curves and velocities, accelerations, lengths and line integrals, curvature, and osculating planes. These basic materials will be used in the multi-variable calculus course <Honor Calculus 2>.

이 과목은 이공계열 신입생을 위한 기초 교양수학과목으로, 주된 내용은 미적분학이다. 고등학교 교육과정에서 다루는 함수의 극한, 삼각함수, 지수함수, 로그함수 등을 포함한 여러 함수의 미분법과 그 응용, 정적분과 부정적분의 계산법과 그 응용 등에 익숙한 학생을 수강대상으로 한다. 첫 번째 구체적인 목표는 테일러 정리를 포함하는 기본적인 거듭제곱급수 이론 및 특정한 함수의 거듭제곱급수 표현에 대한 이해이다. 함수의 거듭제곱급수 표현을 이용하면 함수 값을 임의로 정밀하게 계산할 수 있기 때문에 이 기법은 이론적인 측면에서 뿐만 아니라 실용적인 측면에서도 매우 중요한 역할을 한다. 두 번째 목표로는 평면과 공간의 여러 가지 좌표계, 벡터, 행렬, 행렬식, 선형사상, 곡선 등에 대한 이해이다. 이 개념들은 공간을 이해하는 데 꼭 필요한 내용으로, 그 자체로서도 매우 유용할 뿐만 아니라 연계과목 <수학 2>에서 주로 다루게 될 다변수함수 미적분의 기초가 된다.

This course serves as a basic mathematics course focusing primarily on calculus for students in science and engineering. This course is aimed at  students familiar with limits of functions, differentiation of various functions including trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic functions, (in)definite integrals and their applications. The first detailed goal is to understand basic power series theory including Taylor’s theorem and power series representation of certain functions. Power series representation allows us to compute values of functions with an arbitrary precision, so that this technique plays an important role both practically and theoretically. Secondly, we would like to understand various coordinate systems, vectors, matrices, determinants, and curves. These concepts are essential for comprehension of spaces, so that they are very useful by themselves as well as fundamental to several variable calculus, which is the main focus in the follow-up course, <Calculus 2>.
