We will discuss how the translation lengths of pseudo-Anosov elements of the mapping class groups can help understanding its normal closure. The results which will be mentioned in the talk are based on joint works with various subgroups of the following group of people {Eiko Kin, Ahmad Rafiqi, Hyunshik Shin, Chenxi Wu}.
