Root systems and simple Lie algebras from simple curve singularities of type A and D

Abstract)

This thesis presents a geometric construction of root systems and simple Lie algebras from the two-variable simple singularities of types A and D.
The Milnor fibers of these singularities are described using polygonal models, in which the vertices define the boundary of it.
It is shown that equivalence classes of straight lines within these polygonal representation of the Milnor fiber corresponds the roots of an abstract root system.
Furthermore, the Lie bracket structure is constructed geometrically using the established root systems and basic tools from singularity theory.
