The theory of Eisenstein series on finite dimensional Lie groups has important applications in number theory, representation theory and mathematical physics. In this talk, basic properties and applications of Eisenstein series (on SL_2) will be presented and a generalization to infinite dimensional Kac-Moody groups will be discussed.
